School was out at 1:30 for my children today. It was already snowing and Tonya walked to go get them so they could walk back in the snowfall. I had lit a fire at lunch time which we kept roaring all day long after that—it got pretty hot! After I was done with work I could finally spend some quality time with family. We had dinner (pizza as usual since it’s Friday), watch a Scholastic video with Christmas stories, we played “pick up sticks”, the kids and I went and played out in the snow for a while. After coming back in we read from a Christmas book I’ve been reading the kids, snuggled and now everyone (else) is in bed. These are the kinds of days to be remembered.

I’ve always loved snow. One of the things I like most is how snow lights up the night. It also brings such a softness to everything and is now especially pretty at Christmastime. We have red lights on our bushes and white lights on two holly “towers” that Tonya made. With the snow on them they are just beautiful—especially the red ones because now there are several inches of snow and the red looks like glowing berries underneath the snow. I wish we could have more days like this—not just the snow but of just relaxing and enjoying life with my family. I’ve recently been interested in reading Dickens’s Pickwick Papers and in one of my Christmas books there is an excerpt from Dickens’s book describing a Christmas party. At the end of the excerpt Dickens writes, “‘This,’ said Mr. Pickwick, looking round him, ‘this is, indeed, comfort.’” I wholeheartedly agree. Days like today are, indeed, comfort.
